CULLOWHEE, N.C. —Western Carolina University's "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band has officially accepted an invitation to perform at the 2028 London New Year's Day Parade in England. 

The surprise announcement was shared with students as they launched their 2026 season. Known widely as the "Baddest Band in the Land," the ensemble will spend the next two seasons preparing for this major international appearance. 

Following are key details of the invitation:

• Event: London New Year's Day Parade

• Performance date: Jan. 1, 2028.

• Location: London, England.

• Audience size: Expected to draw hundreds of thousands of live street spectators and reach millions globally via broadcast coverage.

The invitation adds to a long list of prestigious accolades for the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band. 

Over the years, the program has represented WCU on several world-renowned stages.
