ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Mission Hospital is seeking state approval to add 10 neonatal beds as part of a $25.9 million project, WLOS reported on Sept. 3.

According to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, MH Mission Hospital LLLP filed a certificate of need application for the additional beds. The nearly $26 million project would be completed in July 2029, the release said.

A public hearing for the project will be held in the Pack Memorial Activity Room of the Pack Memorial Library at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The state is also accepting public comments on the proposal. Written comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 1, the release said.

Meanwhile, the “Comment Bubble” on the website of Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) that appeared after its story included the following assertions:
