ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Ashonta Foursha Basnight, 28, turned herself in to the Asheville Police Departmen on March 20 as the second suspect in a March 8 downtown Asheville shooting that injured nine people on North Lexington Avenue.
She has been charged with ights counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, with three of them felony counts, and discharging a firearm within city limits.
Basnight is being held without bond under Iryna’s Law. As of late March, her bond was set at $250,000.
The shooting occurred around 3:15 a.m. March 8, when nine people were injured, including seven hit by gunfire or fragments, one injured seeking safety, and one assaulted..
Specifically, warrants allege that Basnight assaulted eight different victims by shooting multiple times into the sidewalk in a large crowd, causing ricochet and fragmentation that struck the victims.
The first suspect in the March 18 downtown Asheville shooting, Calobe Leo Workman, 19, turned himself in earlier, on March 16.
The investigation is active, with police reviewing the relationship between the suspects and seeking further information.
Basnight is currently booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility. Her disposition hearing is set for April 13.
