From Staff Reports

ASHEVILLE — Police have confirmed that they are investigating a reported disturbance involving U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-Flat Rock, on the night of May 10, following his speaking engagement at a downtown Asheville hotel, Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on May 11.

“I can confirm we are investigating a report of a disturbance that occurred at the Embassy Suites last night and that Chuck Edwards was present,” Asheville police spokesperson Rick Rice said in a written statement.

News 13 noted that Edwards said in a statement that, after a speaking engagement at the hotel, he “refused to engage with an intoxicated man that was cursing.” Edwards said the man became more belligerent and called the police.

“His behavior was embarrassing to the people at the event and was duly noted by the police,” Edwards said. “To my knowledge, there was no further action taken by police.”

News 13 was told more information would be forthcoming on May 12, which is after the Daily Planet’s press deadline for this edition, so a follow-up story will appear in the next edition
