From Staff Reports
UNC Asheville recently received a federal TRIO grant worth a total of $1.3 million, according to an Oct. 13 release from the university.
This grant, the first of its kind for the university, aims to assist first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities. According to the release, the funds will provide "holistic and targeted support with the goal of lowering their risk for attrition or not completing their degree."
The $1.3 million will be disbursed over five years to establish a TRIO Student Support Services Program.
UNCA also will soon hire a program director for TRIO SSS, as well as an academic success coach, both supported by the grant, according to the release.
The TRIO SSS Program will begin in the spring 2026 semester, enrolling 140 students.
