BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Charles Donald Wilson, 76, was arrested on July 2 at the Trailhead Restaurant located at 207 West State Street in downtown here.
Earlier that day, Wilson reportedly was asked to leave the restaurant after making inappropriate comments to an employee and threatening to return with a firearm.
“He (Wilson) returned around 5:30 p.m. armed with a gun, prompting several bystanders and staff to intervene and restrain him until the police arrived,” AI Overview stated.
Wilson was taken into custody without further injury.
He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $20,000 secured bond, facing the following charges:
• Going armed to the terror of the public
• Brandishing a firearm
• Intoxicated and disruptive behavior
Regarding the incident, the Black Mountain Police issued the following statement:
“The actions displayed by members of our community exemplified extraordinary courage and selflessness under difficult circumstances. While incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Black Mountain, they are inherently dangerous and unpredictable.”
