LAKE LURE, N.C. — Live Christmas trees are being sought to sink in Lake Lure to create a fish habitat here, the Town of Lake Lure recently announced.
To that end, live trees — bare of all lights, ornaments, tinsel, flocking (artificial snow) and tree stands — may be dropped off near the Lake Lure Police Boat House at Pool Creek Picnic Park, at 2724 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure.
“The town collects these trees to sink in the lake, providing shelter for fish, though they’ll be weathered first to remove contaminants,” AI Overview noted on Jan. 1. “No specific deadline (is) mentioned, but it’s an ongoing effort for the new year.”
AI Overview added, “The trees are anchored and submerged in shallow parts of the lake to provide sheltered areas that support the fish population.
