From Staff Reports

LAKE LURE, N.C. —  While the Town of Lake Lure does not plan to use federal FEMA funds to rebuild its popular landmrk, the Flowering Bridge, town officials noted that they  intend to revisit the concept of a pedestrian bridge in the future — once a permanent roadway and other permanent multimodal infrastructure are in place.

The Flowering Bridge was heavily damaged by Tropical Storm Helene and has already been demolished due to engineering deeming it unsafe.

Lake Lure’s decision to put its money elsewhere came after U.S. Rep. Tim Moore , R-Kings Mountain, announced on Sept. 15 that the town will receive $2,565,168.30 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to replace the Flowering Bridge.
