LAKE LURE — The Lake Lure Inn & Spa, a historic landmark built nearly 100 years ago in 1927 and a location in the filming of the iconic “Dirty Dancing,” recently was sold for more than $11 million, Asheville television station WLOS (News 13) reported on June 27
The inn was sold to an Atlanta-based boutique hotel investment group, Ridgeline Acquisitions LLC, which says it will keep the 72-room inn open during any future renovations.
“The rooms, I think, will probably get an update,” News 13 quoted George Carter of Dwell Realty Group as saying. “I think based on the buyer’s other projects, they’re going to make things more streamlined, more of a modern look.”
The property includes a pool, an arcade of retail suites and more.
Among the esteemed guests who have visited the inn are Calvin Coolidge, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Franklin D. Roosevelt .
Movie fans know the property as one of the locations for the 1987 film “Dirty Dancing.”
“The inn’s former owner George Wittmer said he and his wife Hope loved owning the Lake Lure Inn,” News 13 stated.
“Hope and I are grateful to our dedicated staff, many who have been with us since the beginning... We are confident that the Lake Lure Inn and Town Center will continue to thrive,” Wittmer told News 13.
An inn promotion stated, “Located across the street from Lake Lure Beach, the hotel is within walking distance to many activities, such as swimming, fishing, boating and canoeing.”
