From Staff Reports

UNC Asheville will welcome the Ukr.ainian quartet DakhaBrakha to campus for a performance at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in Lipinsky Auditorium.  A limited number of general admission tickets will be available to community members for $15, UNCA noted in a press release

DakhaBrakha describes its unique sound as “ethno-chaos.” The quartet merges cabaret, jazz, rock and hip-hop with Ukrainian folk styles accompanied by traditional instruments from Russia, Australia, India and more. The quartet haa performed in concerts and international festivals worldwide, including the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and have been featured on National Public Radio’s world-famous Tiny Desk Concerts.

DakhaBrakha, which translates to “give and take” in Ukrainian, was formed at an experimental theater in Kyiv, Ukraine. Its shows, often punctuated with political messaging and calls for “No war!”, have taken an even more impassioned tone since beginning their current US tour, which kicked off just weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine, the UNCA press release stated.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets for community members can be purchased through Eventbrite.

Admission will be free to UNCA students, faculty and staff with their OneCard on a first come, first served basis.

The night before their appearance at UNCA, DakhaBrakha will perform headlining a set at the 50th annual Leaf Festival in Black Mountain on Oct. 22 evening.
