CLEMSON — With his term representing South Carolina’s 3rd District ending on Jan. 3, U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., “has donated his congressional papers to Clemson University,” The Upstate Post and Courier reported on Jan 2.
“The records include congressional letters, bill drafts, speeches, audio and video recordings, and correspondence with major political and governmental figures spanning Duncan’s 14-year legislative career in Washington,” the Post and Courier noted, citing Duncan’s Press Secretary Joe Kirby.
Born in Greenville and originally from Laurens, Duncan attended Clemson, where he graduated in 1988 with a political science degree.
“He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 to represent the Palmetto State’s most conservative district,” the Post and Courier noted. “Duncan said he hopes the collection will help educate and inspire the next generation of students.”
In a prepared statement, Duncan asserted, “I am proud of the political science degree I obtained from Clemson in 1988! I am even more proud to represent the university on Capitol Hill as the only Clemson graduate in the U.S. Congress, as well as being the longest-serving Clemson graduate to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives in its 235-year history. Go Tigers!”
Meanwhile, in its summation of Duncan’s political career, the Post and Courier stated, “Duncan served seven terms in the seat covering the 11-county area that includes Clemson, one of six Republicans in the state’s seven-member congressional delegation. Plagued by allegations of an affair with a D.C. lobbyist, he announced in January 2024 he would not seek re-election.”
