From Staff Reports

WEAVERVILLE — Following a career spanning more than 30 years, Ron Davis, Weaverville’s chief of police, will retire at the end of March after serving the town since January 2019.

Regarding Davis’ impending departure, Weaverville Town Manager Selena Coffey said in a statement, “Chief Davis leaves a strong legacy of professionalism, unity, compassion, kindness, and integrity.

“Not only did Chief Davis implement new and improved law enforcement practices, but he strengthened an environment of trust and comradery within the Weaverville Police Department” during his tenure.

“While most police agencies in the area have suffered staff shortages, the Weaverville Police Department has had officers applying for positions with the (police) department even when the department didn’t have vacancies.”

In addition to his numerous accomplishments as chief, Davis was the first chief to introduce hybrid and electric vehicles to his department’s patrol fleet, the town noted.

Davis’ retirement will be effective at the end of March 2024 — and plans are in place to provide for a smooth transition for the Weaverville residents, town officials said.
