NEWBERRY, S.C. — “The Music of ‘The Rat Pack,’” tribute show will be performed at 3 p.m. March 26 in the Newberry Opera House at 1201 McKibben St., here.
Regarding the show, an event promotion stated, “This show features (South Carolina) regional stars Jason Stokes, Kevin Bush, Terrance Henderson and Jonathan Jackson, bringing a special tribute to the music of ‘The Rat Pack’ — Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
“They will be accompanied by the phenomenal Greg Boatwright on piano,” an NOH event promotion noted.
Meanwhile, a March 26, 2022, story last year in the Greenwood Index-Journal said of the tribute group, “ The swing and swagger of early 1960s entertainers Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra is embodied” in the show.
Stokes, one of the singers, told the the Index-Journal in the interview, “You will have a good time. The kinetic energy is really quite amazing... It will be a callback to an earlier time for older audiences and a fun ride for younger ones.”
Among the classics they will perform are “Saturday Night Is the Loneliest Night of the Week” and “Once in a Lifetime,” along with a medley featuring Nat King Cole’s “L.O.V.E.” and more.
“I’ve always been a fan of the original Rat Pack,” Stokes said in the Index-Journal interview. “We did two nights as a fundraiser in 2007 and we had so much fun, we decided to do it again, in 2009-2010, that time as one-night fundraiser for Columbia’s Trustus Theatre.”
