THE CANDID CONSERVATIVE: 2020 is the new 1984

“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”
— George Orwell, “1984”

The problem

Listening to Democrat politicians, one would think most Americans are living in absolute misery.

Per an all too familiar script, women are abused, the poor are exploited, minorities are downtrodden and the sick are dying in neglected droves.

In truth, today’s women are more prosperous, educated and liberated than at any point in history. America’s poorest have more opportunities and prosperity potentials than the middle-class citizens of most countries. In this century, America’s majority has elected a black man to the presidency – twice. Nowhere on the planet is there a stronger combination of better, prompter and more available health care.

We live in a wondrous time when we’re free to believe anything we wish. That option does not equate to freedom from the folly of dogma.

Truth-seekers find comfort in a compass always pointing in same direction. Others prefer the opportunism found in pretense. Today’s liberal-progressive-socialist movement – as personified in the Democratic Party – relies firmly on the latter.

Perhaps that’s why they’re attempting a 1984-style con-job.

Power is the mission

The question on why anyone ever says up is down, left is right, dark is light, or a lie is the truth is always – repeat always – attached to the pursuit of some sort of power.

That’s how we’ve gotten to a crazy place when an unborn child is widely viewed as throwaway protoplasm – when giving people things without attached responsibility is sold as a false path to pride, independence and a better life – when segregated American Indian reservations are marketed as a good thing while segregation is broadly condemned everywhere else – when credence is given to the much-proclaimed illusion that a government which can’t even manage itself is somehow going to magically take care of the rest of us – when Black Entertainment Television, the Black Congressional Caucus, and other “black” organizations are endorsed as OK amidst the otherwise anti-racist rhetoric of 21st century America – and when hating the opposition has become the accepted core of the liberal path to social change.

Everywhere in America one finds points of struggle that grinds us against one another. It makes no sense until we understand it’s not about us.

It’s about the pursuit of power.

Spin is the method

Conjure up a mental replay of the Democratic presidential debates. Witness the relentless declarations reliably following a simple script – “If you repeat something enough times to enough people, it becomes truth.”

To the left’s inconvenience, not everyone can be battered into submission through propaganda. For some, finesse is necessary – the simple promise of something for nothing works masterfully.

Having thus clogged targeted brains with puffery, the door is opened to planting half-truths. Over time the volume need only be gradually turned up to secure “Nineteen-Eighty-Four”-like conformity.

That’s how Hitler conned one of the most advanced cultures in history into the unimagined tragedies of WWII. That’s how Chairman Mao captured enough power to starve 45 million people in four short years. That’s how Stalin got by with murdering 20 million of his own through execution, starvation and imprisonment. That’s also how Americans have killed 65 million unborn children since Roe v. Wade.

Add today’s biased journalists, unscrupulous social media outlets, and rapid artificial intelligence advancements to the left’s script, and 2020 is the new 1984.

What to do?

Pick up Mr. George Orwell’s 1949 publication (“Nineteen Eighty-Four: A Novel”). In it, he offers stark warning on the grave dangers of today’s corrupted version of liberalism.

Those who read, think, debate, write, work, worship and love in civil fashion make poor “Nineteen Eighty-Four” converts. Those who drop anchor in anger, victimization, dependency, entitlement, social media, drugs, immorality and propaganda-news are perfect conversion specimens.

Don’t be a specimen – be an independent thinker who resists group-think, group-comfort and group-conformity.

With apologies to the editor of this publication, I’ve just insulted half his readers. Here’s to the 50 percent who cherish the powers of a mature liberated mind – and to others who are beginning to wake up.

We live in a world where the fast-fading lights of love and reason require something more from the best of us. The alternative is having cloaked social predators spin our hearts and minds into habituated mush.

When that happens, everything else will follow ....
