The problem
Ever tried to write something in Asheville that supports conservative thinking? May I recommend it? The resulting view into the darker soul of the opposition will amaze.
The progressive pattern of response to being exposed to conservatism is startlingly predictable. First, they insult. Then they act out the same bad qualities they assign to conservatives – psychologist’s call it “projection.” Then they attempt to sell swiss cheese-like logic as confirmed fact. And, finally, they counter their own earlier malice and profanity with a call for love and compassion for one’s fellow man.
Sorry ladies and gentleman, reason, truth and progress do not come so cheaply. If the left is really interested in advancing our culture, they’re going to have to try much harder than a thread worn reliance on anger, animosity and abuse.
Thankfully, we’re beginning to see our country’s sincere culturists waking up to the notion one cannot get to good places through good means. A brief look at Plan B might be helpful.
Where do you really stand?
Human beings typically fit into one of four classes – sheep, sheepdogs, wolves or opportunists.
Most of us are sheep. We travel the direction of the herd and enjoy the comfort of being with the perceived in-crowd. Concern with how foolish that crowd might be, comes in a distant second to the temporary satisfaction of belonging.
Sheepdogs represent the best of us. These are the folks – think first-responders, those who volunteer for the military, and principle-driven politicians – who pursue the preservation of people, resources and liberties at the risk of their own well-being.
Wolves are predators who seek the opposite.
Opportunists – politically known as moderates – are those willing to play any of these roles as long as it furthers their primary mission of personal gain. Opportunists are more dangerous than wolves.
Conservatives are the sheepdogs of 21st century America.
That begs the question as to what category the left falls into. That’s easy, today’s liberal-progressive-socialist movement is a rainbow blend of sheep, predators and opportunists.
Those resenting that inference are suffering one of two conditions – denial or confusion. I can help with the latter. Time and reality will dependably adjust the first.
Though the mainstream media – see wolves and opportunists above – would have us believe otherwise, the majority of Americans are actually conservatives. Need proof? Our numbers were so great we were able to beat 10 to one odds and a rigged election, and still put an irritating political novice into the White House.
We did it because a lot of us were willing to embrace the promises of a unique unknown for the certain self-destruction of a corrupt known. We did it without money, without party organization, and without any real measure of hope. We did it in spite of relentless media bias, dysfunctional polling, and mass mockery. We did it because there was a majority of Americans still holding firmly to conservative values.
We also did it because there are a host of those who are more conservative than they realize or admit. What follows is a helpful guide to aiding confused conservatives in coming out.
Conservatives believe that the number one job of government is public safety – not the provision of binkies to every self-serving person or special interest group seeking to nurse off the labors of others. Public safety cues on the rule of law over the rule of power and personal preference; the sanctity of our borders and our homes; and defense of the nation over military adventurism.
Conservatives are careful with other people’s money, resources, and liberty. We understand that a government that promises everything for nothing is programmed to eventually take everything for nothing.
Conservatives believe morality matters. We are dedicated to religious liberty for all and simultaneously recognize that Judaeo-Christian values are at the core of everything America stands for. We see the wisdom in remaining loyal to the one who brought us to the dance.
Conservatives know that rights don’t work without responsibility. We see what happens – think the health, drug, and street-freak challenges overwhelming San Francisco, L.A. and other California cities – when the left takes control and unleashes rights while erasing accountabilities. Gasoline without a tank is a fire hazard.
Conservatives like the idea of big people over big government. We recognize you have to pick one and that as government grows bigger, people shrink.
Conservatives are fond of our country’s guiding blueprint – the U.S. Constitution. We note the extraordinary wisdom of our founding fathers versus the dependable folly of today’s opportunistic political leadership class.
Conservatives believe in teaching our kid’s the 4-R’s – in reality, reason, responsibility, and right we find a future of hope, freedom, security and individual potential. That view contrasts mightily with our opposition’s dedication to other letters in the alphabet – fantasy, emotion, recklessness, and convenience.
Conservatives are dedicated to loving and uplifting our fellow man. We understand that the American Constitution can be summed up in the word love and that too often what is marketed as love by the left is actually enabling as a path to making people servants to a privileged governing class. Conservatives believe people make poor pets.
Conservatives assert that government should live frugally and within its means. Real conservatives recognize that debt and high taxes lead to sloth and servitude. Liberals and opportunistic politicians are always able to find a way to spend other people’s money or money that doesn’t exist. Their mission? To purchase voter loyalty or otherwise avoid the accountabilities of responsible leadership. See wolves and opportunists above – again.
Conservatives love “The American Success Equation” – Liberty + Opportunity + Responsibility = Prosperity. We don’t pretend that skipping ingredients will produce the same results, and we don’t con people by putting a new label on an old failure formula – socialism.
Those surprised to discover personal infinity with the practices and principles above are faced with a conundrum. If such be the case, the next step is to step away from whatever herd one has attached oneself to and start walking as an independent thinker.
It won’t be easy, it won’t always be fun, and speaking from experience, one can count on abuse. But in the morning, there’s the opportunity to wake-up on the right side of nature and history.
Planning to vote? Please do, but not without research and investing that responsibility in something besides candidate charm and their habitual promise of something for nothing.
For those who do that, finding a home in today’s Democrat Party will be tough. The donkey started losing its way in the ‘60s and has stumbled deeper into the wilderness ever since.
The Republican Party? Well, a look at its principles and platform reveals mainstream values that don’t insult one’s morality and intelligence.
Though far from perfect, the Republican Party remains the only political movement remotely capable of challenging the excesses of the left as manifested in today’s troubled Democrat Party. Spoiler alert – making sure Republican elected officials stick to their promises is not a “someone needs to do something” thing. It’s an “I’ve got to get involved” kind of thing.
Please do just that. Political affiliation today is like that stellar 2nd Amendment endorsement – “The only effective counter to a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.”
The only counter to a naïve, hostile and emotional voter is....
