From Staff Reports

Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer will join the leadership team guiding the transition of North Carolina Governor-elect Josh Stein, Manheimer noted in a Nov. 7 press release.

Specifically, the release stated the following:

“This critical role comes at a time when Asheville is focusing on recovery from Hurricane Helene and signals Governor-elect Stein’s commitment to restoring Western North Carolina.

“Mayor Manheimer’s appointment signifies an important opportunity for Asheville and Western North Carolina to be represented at the highest levels of state leadership.

“Mayor Manheimer has assured Asheville residents that her commitment to the city’s ongoing recovery efforts remains her top priority. Serving in the transition leadership will enable her to advocate for resources and recovery support for Western North Carolina with a strong and direct voice.

“‘This appointment places me closer to the decision-making process in Raleigh, where I can amplify the needs of Asheville and our region to state leaders, ensuring that our community’s recovery efforts are prioritized,’ said Mayor Manheimer. She emphasized that her role will enhance her capacity to secure essential resources, streamline state-level support, and further build resilience across Asheville as the city continues to rebuild.

“With this appointment, Asheville and Western North Carolina gain a powerful advocate during this vital period.”
