RALEIGH – State Attorney General Josh Stein, a Democrat, on Nov. 5 easily won in his bid to be the next governor of North Carolina, topping his embattled Republican opponent Mark Robinson.
Stein’s victory will make is the first Jewish governor of North Carolina.
Stein won 3,068,374 votes, or 54.9 percent, versus Mark Robinson’s 2,240,861 votes, or 40.1 percent.
During a Raleigh watch party on Nov. 5 celebrating his win, Stein asserted the following:
“Tonight, the people of North Carolina resoundingly embraced a vision that’s optimistic, forward-looking and welcoming — a vision that’s about creating opportunity for every North Carolinian.”
Also in his watch party address, Stein “spent some time speaking to residents in Western North Carolina who were affected by Hurricane Helene,” the Asheville Citizen Times reported on Nov. 7.
“And I will will show up for the people of Western North Carolina to help them rebuild safer and stronger than ever,” the ACT quoted Stein as saying.
The newspaper added that Stein “also pledged to work across the aisle.
“‘We will go further when we go together — not as Democrats, not as Republicans, not as independents, but as North Carolians,’ Stein said.
The race pitted Robinson, a provocative working-class black man with a trail of bad media attention, against Stein, a Harvard-educated lawyer who has been in politics for years, the ACT noted.
To that end, Time.com reported, “In September, a CNN investigation linked Robinson, 56, to dozens of inflammatory and racist comments on a porn forum. The posts predate Robinson’s entry into politics and current stint as North Carolina’s lieutenant governor. Robinson has denied making the comments.”
