Flat Rock Playhouse unveils its return with two fall indoor shows

From Staff Reports

FLAT ROCK — Flat Rock Playhouse recently announced that it is returning to the stage this fall for two indoor performances.

Specifically, the FRP noted that it will offer “Autumn at the Opry” from Oct. 8 to 31; and “A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas” from Nov. 26 to Dec. 19.

Prior to that, however, updates to the playhouse’s new health and safety protocols for the theater, in addition to those already in place, have been made. Given the current spike in COVID-19 cases locally and regionally, FRP will require that patrons show either:

• Proof of their COVID-19 vaccination (12 years and older), or

• Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to the performance start time, or

• A negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within six ours of the performance start time.

• All children ages 11 and younger will be show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours (or antigen test taken within six hours) prior to the performance start time and wear a mask at all times indoors.

In accordance with these protocols, all guests ages 18 and older must present a valid photo ID along with their proof of vaccinaton or negative COVID-19 test. At this time, masks will be required to be worn properly indoors at all times. This decision is consisent with requirements at professional regional theaters across the country, as well as Broadway.

In a recent survey, FRP patrons responded that vaccinated-only performances are the No. 1 factor that will make them feel more comfortable returning to shows.

“The Playhouse acknowledges and understands that many folks will appreciate this decision and that others may not,” the Hendersonville Times-News reported on Sept. 12. “Either way, theater leaders have made the difficult decisions to best ensure the health and safety of the patrons, artists, staff and crew, which is the Playhouse’s top priority.”

FRP Artistic Director Lisa K Bryant was quoted by the HT-N as saying, “We are deeply gratefuyl for the unwavering support the Playhouse has received these last 19 months. Personal gifts, various sponsorships, ticket donations and endless goodwill have seen us through this devastating time in our history. Just a couple of months ago, we believed the light we were seeing in the distance was the end of the tunnel.

“Unfortunately, we’re simply not out of the woods just yet. Like so many others in our industry and throughout the community — whatever their business may be — we must continue to wrestle with these complex decisions to ensure optimum safety for our guests and crew and, hopefully, uninterrupted viability for the theater.”
