From Staff Reports

Buncombe County Recreation Services announced in a June 17 press release that its five outdoor swimming pools will open the next day at 10:30 a.m. for the summer season.

The pools will operate at about 30 percent capacity, Josh O’Conner, director of Buncombe County Recreation Services, said in the release. O’Conner noted that toys and other traditional pool gear like noodles, dive sticks and balls will not be allowed in the pools.

“While this summer is different in nearly every way for local families, we’re happy to safely and responsibly open our pools to the community,” O’Conner said in the release.

The pools will operate in two sessions Monday-Saturday, with the time between sessions being used by pool workers for sanitation.

Meanwhile, the City of Asheville Parks & Recreation Department announced on June 5 its decision to close all Asheville pools, including Splasheville in Pack Square Park, for the summer season over coronavirus concerns.

The city’s closure anouncement includes three pools, which are located at Recreation Park, Malvern Hills Park and Walton Street Park.
